Newcastle takeover latest: Mike Ashley no longer looking to sell and takes club off market

In November, Newcastle fans took to the streets of London to call on Ashley, who bought the club for 133million in 2007, to leave Tyneside.The business tycoon has frustrated supporters by failing to sufficiently back popular manager Rafa Benitez in the transfer market.The Magpies broke their 14-year transfer record when they signed Miguel Almiron from MLS club Atlanta United for 20million in January. The fee eclipsed the 16million they paid Real Madrid for Michael Owen in 2005. With Ashley set to stay at St James Park, his number one priority will be tying down Benitez to a new deal.The Spaniard, who guided Newcastle to a top-10 finish with limited funds last term, is out of contract at the end of the season.Benitez is believed to want transfer assurances from Ashley before putting pen to paper on fresh terms.
